Thinking the unthinkable - what Real without Ronaldo might've looked like

Milkshakes without milk, burgers without buns, pizzas without mozzarella and Real Madrid without Ronaldo.
It's just not the same when the main ingredient is missing and Cristiano is crucial to Real.

Just take his stats: 364 goals in 347 games for Los Blancos, 1.04 goals a game, 30 hat-tricks, his record-breaking 93 Champions League goals and the record he set two years ago for most goals in Europe in a single season (a mighty 17).
Cristiano Ronaldo on the pitch
This year, Ronaldo has already scored 16 goals in the Champions League, including three hat-tricks. He's got one game left to break his own record - the final against Real’s city rivals, Atletico Madrid.
So imagine the panic when CR7 limped off the training ground on Tuesday after being clattered by teammate Dani Carvajal.

The team faced the nightmare scenario of trying to win an 11th European Cup without their talisman.
Cristiano says he will be able to play in Milan on Saturday, but how would Real have coped in his absence?
In his Real career, Ronaldo has missed 49 games, with the team winning 34, drawing six and losing nine of those matches.
This season, the 31-year-old has missed just four games. A hamstring injury forced him to sit out two La Liga games in April (which Real won) and the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Manchester City, which ended in a draw.
Against City, Real were blunt in attack, but were more disciplined in defence.

But Real are not a one man army. They have spent hundreds of millions compiling a team of Galaticos and could probably cope inside the San Siro without Ronaldo.
Yes, he scores bags of goals but Real have the other two thirds of the so-called ‘B.B.C’ - Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale can both pitch in, not to mention Luka Modric, James Rodriguez, Toni Kroos...
Benzema, Bale and Ronaldo
Ronaldo offers plenty in attack, but he's not a player who tracks back and is pretty vocal against his teammates when things aren't going his way.
In the 2014 Champions League final, also against Atletico, Ronaldo had an off night and Real needed goals from Sergio Ramos and Gareth Bale to drag them towards La Decima before their golden boy scored the fourth goal from the penalty spot.
But there's no denying that Ronaldo strikes fear into defenders with his armoury of direct running, deadly free-kicks, bullet headers and powerful shots.
